All Aboard for W.I.N!
Each day at SIE begins with WIN time.
This is a daily 30 minute block time
where all students in 1st - 5th grade
learn in groups outside their usual
classroom. The goal of WIN time is to
meet the most important needs of our
students early in the day. Students
that are below standard in reading
receive strategic small group inter-
ventions. Students at or above grade-
level in reading choose from several
options for extended learning classes or service opportunities. We are able to create many small group settings by utilizing all faculty and staff in an "all hands on deck" approach. All teachers and paraprofessionals are assigned to a class or small group.
Students are selected for specific intervention groups based on DibelsNEXT reading assessments and other reading diagnostic screeners. WIN groups are flexible and fluid. Students may change groups as frequently as needed based on new assessment information.
This WIN concept was developed and refined in DeSoto Parish Schools over the last several years to great success. We are glad to benefit from their experience and enjoy engaging in professional dialogue and collaboration with the faculty and administration of several of those schools as we adapt this approach at Shreve Island.
