Kagan: It's all about Engagement!
Kagan Cooperative Learning is a "big rock" at Shreve Island because of its potential to close the achievement gap. Kagan is a method of teaching, woven into traditional instruction, that promotes a high level of student engagement with the content through cooperative "structures". You may have heard of some of these before, such as Numbered Heads Together, Quiz-Quiz Trade, Rally Robin, or Timed Pair Share. These are just a few of the research-based cooperative learning structures that teachers can use to engage their whole class in the content simultaneously.
Kagan fits perfectly with out commitment to Habit #6: Synergize! In addition to raising academic achievement for ALL learners, Kagan allows students to develop valuable 21st century workplace skills such as working together, listening, providing feedback, discussion, evaluating, examining multiple solutions, coming to consensus, and coaching just to name a few. By utilizing Kagan consistently, our students are gaining a great bonus by consistently practicing social and teamwork skills that mirror the way successful adults do in their careers.
