Jessica Milam is a Pre-K teacher at Shreve Island Elementary School. She is married to Cade Milam and has two children, Gracie and Benjamin. She graduated from LSUS in 2009 majoring in Early Childhood Education. She loves teaching and has always wanted this to be her career. Jessica enjoys living in the country and being outdoors.
Debbie Duncan, ESCE
Nichol Giles has worked at Shreve Island for 28 years. She is married to Melvin Giles Sr. They have a son Melvin Giles Jr. She loves spending time with her family, traveling, and football. In her spare time she loves working out and playing with her nephew T.J. Working with all the sweet kids at Shreve Island has been a blessing. She has seen so many grow up to be young men and women with families of their own.
Anna is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University and has been on staff at Shreve Island for 15 years. Anna has been married to Randy for 30 years and they have 2 grown sons, both graduates of Shreve Island. She loves her job as a Preschool Para and feels blessed to call Shreve Island her second home!
Brenda has been with Caddo Parish Schools for 21 years and is entering her second year at Shreve Island for the 21 - 22 school year. She has been married to Mark for 41 years and they have 2 children and 4 grandchildren. She loves working in PreK at Shreve Island Elementary!
Jeannie Aguillard graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge where she majored in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching for 20 years in Kindergarten and PreK. Jeannie enjoys teaching young children because it gives her the unique opportunity to instill a love of learning and strong foundation students can build on. She is thrilled to be part of the Shreve Island family for the past four years. In her spare time, she and her husband Mark enjoy watching their son play high school football and attending LSU games. She also enjoys music, gardening, being outdoors and playing with her dogs Sophie and Lucy.
Angie Bogan is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a BA in Early Childhood Education. She has 25 years experience in grades K-4. Kindergarten is definitely where her heart is. Angie has a love for singing and music that is evident in her classroom. Angie and husband Mike have 3 children, Peyton, Luke, and Camryn. Most of their spare time is spent at a football or baseball game watching their boys play or enjoying listening to their daughter sing at her many singing events. Angie is very excited to be returning to the school where she student taught - to teach students that at one time helped teach her!
Mrs. Gibson began teaching in 2002. She has taught grades K-2 in Caddo Parish for the majority of her career. She also holds a master's degree in Elementary Reading and is a certified reading interventionist. She is married to Matthew Gibson and is expecting a little boy, Michael Patrick, in October of 2021. In her free time, Mrs. Gibson loves to play and snuggle with her fur-child, Harley the Havanese, and visit with friends and family.
Ashley Hazelton is a LSUS graduate and has been with Shreve Island for the past five years. She is married to Matt, and they have two wonderful children Michael and Julia. Ashley teaches not only Kindergarten but leads the Drama Club after school. In her spare time, she enjoys photography, working in the garden, traveling, camping, and spending time with family.
Sherry graduated from Louisiana College in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She received her Masters in Religious Education with an emphasis on children in 1982 from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She has taught in Caddo Parish for seventeen years. She enjoys instilling a love of reading in her students. She has been married 35 years to Noel. They have two grown children, Jenni and Chris, and four precious grandsons. Sherry enjoys spending her free time traveling with her family.

Mrs Haltom been at Shreve Island since 2016. She been married for 14 years since 2001 and loves the outdoors. She loves Shreve Island and the staff.
Maria Neubert graduated with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Early Childhood Care and Education from the University of North Georgia. She spent ten years teaching in a Head Start program while working on her degree. Since then, she has taught kindergarten and first grade both in Georgia and Louisiana and going into her third year at Shreve Island. When not teaching she loves reading, crafting, and visiting her children that are spread out all across the United States.
Jennifer Giordano is in her 24th year of teaching. She has experience in grades Pre K - 5th Grade, but her true love is 1st Grade!!! She graduated in 1996 from LSUS with a BS degree in Psychology. She then went on to earn her teaching certification from Northwestern State University. Jennifer has been married to her husband Chris for 23 years. They have 3 wonderful children, Christopher, Emily, and Andrew who is in 5th grade at Shreve Island. In her spare time, Jennifer loves to cheer her daughter on at volleyball, and support her oldest son in his love of fishing. She and her son, Andrew are very excited to join the bulldog family.
Sarah French is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University with a BA and MA in history, and Northwestern State University with an MAT in elementary education grades 1 through 5. This is her first year at Shreve Island and she is so excited to be a Bulldog! She previously taught 2nd grade and served as a paraprofessional. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and spending time on the lake.
Sara Greer teaches second grade at Shreve Island Elementary. She graduated in Communication Disorders from LSU in 1999, and immediately began working on her teaching certification at LSUS. Sara began her teaching career at Shreve Island in 2002 as a student teacher with Martha Maple, and officially joined the faculty there as a second grade teacher in 2003. Shreve Island is her second home - one that she now shares with her son and daughter, who are students, and her husband Matt, a proud Shreve Island parent.
Lanie Guidry is a graduate of LSU-Baton Rouge, where she received her Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and her Master's Degree, also in Elementary Education. Her love for teaching reading and writing inspired her to get her Reading Specialist Certification. Mrs. Guidry currently teaches Kindergarten, but has previously taught PreK, 1st, and 2nd grades. This is Mrs. Guidry14th year teaching at Shreve Island Elementary. She has one son, Jacob, who attends Shreve Island, and one dog, Molly. She enjoys reading, gardening, and all sorts of crafts!
Candice Evans graduated from LSU-S in 2011 with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education. She has taught for the last 8 years in Caddo Parish and recently was awarded tenure status for being a highly -effective teacher by the Caddo Parish school board. She is married to Aaron and they completed their family with a daughter, named Harper, in 2015. Mrs. Evans has an identical twin sister and enjoys spending time at church, shopping and cooking for her family. She is a proud member of the Shreve Island Home Owners Association and feels invested in this school and community.
Mrs. Pierce is a second grade teacher at Shreve Island. She has known she wanted to be a teacher since 3rd grade when she was in Caddo schools and confirmed that decision in high school at C.E. Byrd. She went on to graduate from Northwestern State University with a degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Pierce is certified to teach Pre-K through 5th grade. She has been teaching for nine years in Caddo Parish in both 3rd grade and Kindergarten. She is married to Larry Pierce and they have two children. In her spare time she enjoys reading, shopping, traveling, and lake days. Mrs. Pierce is thrilled to be a part of the Shreve Island family this year!
Rachael Haddad graduated from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas in 2005 with a Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. In her 11 years of experience, she has taught ECSE, K, 1st, and 3rd grade. She is excited about her first year teaching 2nd grade at Shreve Island! She is married to Nathan, and they have two children Thaddeus and Henry. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family and friends, camping, and baking.
Heather Peterson graduated from Louisiana Tech University in 2009 with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education. She married her husband, Ryan, in 2012 and they have two sons, Parker and Peyton. Mrs. Peterson likes traveling, crafting, and being lazy during breaks from school.
Lizzy Balch is a graduate of LSU-Shreveport. She has a Master's in Educational Leadership and a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership. This is Lizzy's 7th year at Shreve Island, and she loves teaching at her childhood school where so many wonderful memories were made. She enjoys snuggles with her puppy, reading, and spending time with her family and friends.
Catherine M. Victory has a Bachelor’s Degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. She is currently working on her Masters in the Arts of Teaching at Northwestern State University LA. She is married to Brad Victory and they have 2 daughters, Madilynn and Elizabeth. She enjoys reading, golf, art of any kind, coffee, and spending time with family and friends.
Cindi Doeker, 3rd Grade Special Education
Cindi graduated from Indiana University with a BS degree in Psychology. She later received an Alternative Certification in Texas as a teacher in Special Education, as a result of having a son with multiple disabilities. She taught Early Childhood in Klein ISD for 5 years, until she had to stay home to take care of her chronically ill son Beau and David. She has been married 35 years to her husband Gene. She loves working with children and watching how they progress in their educational and social/emotional development. She spends her spare time teaching Sunday school, attending Bible studies, supporting those in grief, and watching her younger son David & his Rajun Cajun football team.

Bridget Bain graduated from Louisiana State University, Shreveport, in 2016 with her Bachelor of Science in Education degree. Since then, she has been teaching at her old elementary, Walnut Hill. She is so excited to join the Shreve Island family for year 6 and teach fourth grade! In her free time Ms. Bain enjoys exploring new places, spending time with family, thrift shopping, and trying new foods. Ms. Bain will be getting married in November, then we’ll get to call her Mrs. Steen!
Ms. Dawn Dill graduated in 1996 from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from Arkansas State University in 2016. She has taught various grades in both elementary and middle schools throughout her career as an educator. Ms. Dill has been blessed with two children, Kylie, who attends NSU, and Lance, who attends LaTech. During Dawn’s free time, she enjoys reading, surfing Pinterest, working with vinyl, playing with her cat, traveling, and spending time with her family. Ms. Dill is overjoyed to be working at Shreve Island Elementary teaching math and science.
Leigh graduated from Louisiana Tech University with her B.S. in Medical Technology in 2002. She earned her teaching certification through Drexel University. She has taught middle school science for 11 years. She is thrilled to be teaching 4th grade at Shreve Island, where two of her three boys attend. She and her husband, Beau, enjoy spending time with their boys at the hockey rink, baseball field, or the football field.
Kelly teaches fifth grade ELA/Reading, and has been thrilled to be part of the Shreve Island family for 16 years. She has taught students from kindergarten to 5th grade. She received her Bachelors in Elementary and Special Education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport. Away from school, Kelly enjoys reading, playing with her pets, and visiting her beautiful daughter, Bailey.
Melissa Basco graduated with her degree in elementary education from Louisiana State University at Shreveport in 2006. She currently teaches 5th grade math/ science, hosts the robotics club, and is excited to be a member of the Shreve Island family. She has one daughter, Eve. In her free time, Ms. Basco leads her daughter's Junior Girl Scout troop, enjoys concerts and traveling, and trying new food spots. She is also a HUGE fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins! ❤ Hockey
Latoya Knox, 4th/5th Grade Special Education
LaToya Knox received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wiley College in 2010 and her Master’s Degree in Teaching from Grambling State University in 2015; she is currently working on her Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. She is the proud parent of one son, Jace Knox who is also a proud Shreve Island Bulldog. She enjoys spending time with her family and taking trips with her son. She also enjoys reading, and cooking. She has been working in education for 15 years and employed by the Caddo Parish School Board for 10 years. She has earned a certification in regular Education as well as special education. She believes teaching is her calling and truly enjoys watching her students learn and grow, and that teachers really do have the power to change the world.

Traci Hale is a graduate of Louisiana State University in Shreveport. She graduated in 2002 with a degree in Special and Regular Education. She has been teaching special education for 19 years, 12 of those years at Shreve Island. She and her husband, David, have one daughter Cameron. She is a sophomore at Louisiana Tech University. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, going to the movies, and spending time with her family.

Stacy Dysart graduated from LSUS in 2006 with a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. Since that time, she has taught in Pre-K and 3rd grade, but has spent her most recent years enjoying teaching her 2nd grade students. She is excited to now serve in the role Inclusion teacher for the upper elementary grades. When she is not at Shreve Island, Stacy enjoys spending time with her two children as well as her husband!

Amanda Webb has enjoyed teaching in the special education field for over 25 years, in North Carolina, Virginia and in Shreveport. She received her undergraduate degree in special education from LSU in Baton Rouge and her masters degree in special education from UNC at Chapel Hill. Amanda has been at Shreve Island for 17 years and is so thankful to be at such a great school. She enjoys time outside of work with her husband Ian and her 14 year old son Adam.

Sandra graduated from West Monroe High School and began taking classes at Northeast Louisiana State College. Eventually she had three daughters and became a stay-at-home mom. She became very involved with Girl Scouts, youth groups, and adult/children' s choirs, both as a member and a director. She has lived in various parts of Louisiana over the first half of her life with two of her daughters being born in New Orleans and the third daughter born in Alexandria. She and her husband of 31 years, Roland, finally came to Shreveport and have made it their home for the last 18 years. She rejoined the working force at Shreve Island Elementary and has enjoyed working here the past 18 years. She loves to read, cook, visit her now grown children, and is passionate about traveling.

Lisa was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana. She attended Indiana State University of Evansville and Louisiana State University of Shreveport until she married. She has been married to her husband, Johnny, for thirty-one years. Together they have two sons. Lisa enjoyed staying at home to raise her children for ten years, and then went on to work with the Caddo Parish School system. She worked at Southern Hills as a paraprofessional for fourteen years and has been at Shreve Island for four years. Along with her full-time job, she helps to run a vending business, along with her husband. She enjoys attending church functions, and being with her friends and family!

Holly Bryant, Librarian
Holly Bryant graduated from Arkansas State University in 1999 with a B.S.E. in English. She taught high school and middle school English for 8 years before getting certified as a school librarian. She started working as the Shreve Island librarian in 2010. She and her husband have two wonderful children. Holly enjoys learning about the newest technologies in the classroom and sharing that with colleagues. She also loves music and is a beginner at the guitar and piano.
Emily Mixon, PE
Emily received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Louisiana Tech in 2002. She taught 4th grade for 19 years and is now excited to be teaching PE at Shreve Island.
She has been at Shreve Island since 2008. She and her husband, Nate, have been married since 2004. She is the mother of two children Brewer and Marcy Helen, which both attended school at Shreve Island.
In her free time, Emily enjoys watching her kids participate in their various sports, traveling as a family, reading, and playing games.

Hillary graduated from Louisiana State University in Shreveport with a Bachelor of General Studies. Then went on to receive her Alternative Certification in grades 1-5 from Centenary College. Before coming to Shreve Island Hillary taught first, second and third grade. Hillary is married to Eric and they have two children, Sarah-Beth and Alexander. In her spare time she enjoys watching her kids participate in their various activities, movie nights and lake days with family. She feels so fortunate to be able to do what she loves for a living.
Katie Chirhart, iPad Lab
Katie Chirhart graduated from Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX and has taught for over 18 years. She began her teaching career by piloting a full inclusion pre-kindergarten class in College Station, TX--the first of its kind in the state. After moving to Shreveport, she taught third grade at Shreve Island for 10 years and later moved into the parish's first iPad Lab. Since teaching in the iPad Lab, Katie has received numerous awards including Elementary Teacher of the Year from the Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators and the "20 to Watch" Award from the National School Board Assocation. She has also been awarded a scholarship for professional development from the Texas Computer Educators Association (TCEA) and been named a High Impact Teacher Finalist from the same organization. Most recently, Mrs. Chirhart earned her Master's degree is Educational Leadership from Louisiana Tech. In addition to carting her two children to their extracurricular activities Katie enjoys reading, counted cross stitch and spending time with her family.
Karen Hayslip graduated from the University of Akron with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both music and French. She studied choral conducting at Kent State University in Ohio, and then finished her master's degree at Centenary College. Her background is choral (voice) and keyboards, but she also plays the flute, ukulele, and mountain dulcimer. She has taught in public and private schools in Ohio, Florida, and here in Shreveport. Before choosing teaching as a vocation, Karen was a secretary, customer service rep, foreign missionary (France), and a pastor’s wife. She has 3 grown children in Ohio, Oklahoma, and New Orleans. Karen enjoys playing tennis with her husband, Bob, and spending time with her grandchildren when they come to visit.
Rachel Collins, Discoveries
Rachel Collins is a graduate of LSU-Shreveport, with a degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education. Before teaching Discoveries, she taught in kindergarten and first grade for 15 years. Rachel is married to David and has a son, Campbell, who is at Shreve Island. She loves to travel with her family, listen to audio books, and do woodworking and painting her door hangers.
Jeneane Holmes, Gateway
Mrs. Holmes has a wide variety of experience in teaching including K-12 grades and a year teaching in Siberia. She graduated summa cum laude from Centenary College and completed her Master’s degree as a Reading Specialist from Louisiana Tech. She is a National Board Certified Teacher. In her free time, Mrs. Holmes enjoys photography, gardening, movies, and just being home with her husband Mo and their dogs.
Kristen graduated from Centenary College with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and received her Masters of Communication Disorders from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2005. She loves serving the students at Shreve Island Elementary and especially loves that two out of her three children attend the school as well! In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family- her three sons and her husband. She also loves to sing, cook and laugh with her friends!
Celeste Powell graduated from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport and has been working as an OT for 23 years. She is married to Tony Powell and has two children both of whom attended Shreve Island Elementary. Bryce is 17 and attends Captain Shreve High School and Bella is 11 and attends Caddo Middle Magnet. Ms. Powell loves working with students to help them improve their skills and loves spending her free time with her family.
