2020-2021 School Times

School begins at 7:25 AM and ends at 2:50 PM.

 

Students may be dropped off in carpool no earlier than 6:55 AM. Afternoon carpool students must be picked up by 3:05 PM.

 

Red Shreve Island T-Shirts, Spirit Items & PTA Memberships

The red Shreve Island T-Shirts that can be worn as uniform shirt, spirit items, and PTA memberships are now available on Local Level.  Click here to access link in the  PTA STORE  or go to www.locallevelevents.com and search "Shreve Island".  Items ordered by Tuesday, August 18th may be picked up as follows: 

Drive-through pickup of items ordered on Local Level will be on Thursday, August 20th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on the front driveway on Sewanee.  Items must be ordered by Tuesday, August 18th by midnight to be picked on the 20th.  Orders received after August 18th will be sent home with students after school starts. 

 

Pre-K, Kindergarten and New-to-SIE 1st -5th Grade Student Orientation

Pre-K  

Monday, August 24th

Letters will be mailed on Monday, August 10th  to those registered and approved for Pre-K placement. The letter will include the include details on parent orientation procedures and the staggered entrance schedule. 

 

Kindergarten

Friday, August 21st

Letters will be mailed on Tuesday, August 11 to all Kindergarten parents detailing plans for parent orientation procedures and dates/times for Kindergarten parents to meet teachers and see classrooms, along with the staggered entrance schedule for the first week of school. 

New 1st - 5th Grade New Bulldog Orientation

Friday, August 21st  at 3:00 PM

For our New-to-SIE 1st to 5th grade students and their parents, we will provide a walking orientation tour of the school and a chance for students to view their classrooms. We are requiring you to complete the following google form to RSVP for this event so that we can prepare to meet social distancing guidelines and divide families into small tour groups.  Students and parent temperatures will be checked using the non-contact thermometers upon arrival and social distancing will be followed. All parents and 3rd - 5th graders will be required to wear masks. We ask no non-student siblings or guests accompany you for this tour.

In addition to the opportunities described above, we will post for all parents a "virtual" video orientation with all needed information, including a virtual "tour" of the school. 

 

Registration for Meal Service (Virtual Option Only)

Drive-through pick up of weekly meals for those registered will be every Friday (time TBA) through the front driveway at Shreve Island Elementary. 

 

Face Covering Requirements

While inside the school facility, students in grades 3 - 5 must wear a face covering to the greatest extent possible.  Students in grades PK-2 may wear a face covering if desired. All adults in the school building will be required to wear masks. 

 

Both the professionally made paper and or cloth face coverings are acceptable. Make sure your child’s cloth face covering:

● fits snugly but comfortably against the side of the face

● completely covers the nose and mouth

● is secured with ties or ear loops

● includes multiple layers of fabric

● allows for breathing without restriction

● can be laundered and machine dried without damage or change to shape

 

At Shreve Island Elementary, students may wear masks of any color, style or design as long as they meet the above requirements. If a neck gator style face covering is used, it should have two layers of material or should be worn doubled over/folded to create two layers.  Extra disposable masks will be on hand and provided to students who lose or damage their mask during the school day.

Information on Virtual Option

Updates​

  • School will start on August 24th for both Virtual and Traditional Students.

  • We will contact those signed up for Virtual Option regarding device check-out before school starts. 

  • There will be a virtual CANVAS training opportunity for parents to help them navigate the learning management system.  Date is TBA

 

Virtual Model

❖ Students will be taught by certified teachers at their school

❖ All student work will be assessed for a grade based on the Board’s grading policy

 ❖ Technology will be provided for any families as needed to participate in virtual classes  

❖ Students and families will receive training and supports on how to use the district’s new virtual platform, Canvas  

❖ Canvas is the national leader in virtual learning supports for schools and is used by more than 2,000 schools and districts across the nation  

❖ The user-friendly platform is customized based on grade level and teacher preferences  

❖ Instruction will be offered live and on demand  

❖ Grab-and-go meals will be provided

❖ Selecting the Virtual Model requires a 9-weeks commitment to that model.

 

School Opening News - Current Guidance

The following plans are based on current district guidance. These are subject to change and will be updated based on district, state and BESE continual guidance. 

  • School start date has been changed to August 24th

  • Elementary schools will follow the "traditional model"

    • Traditional model is daily in-person instruction with class limits of 25 persons.

  • Parents may choose 100% virtual model with a 9-weeks commitment.

    • Registration for this option will open July 16th. Information on how to register will be shared. 

    • Virtual instruction will be provided by a certified teacher from the school 

    • Live and On-Demand options will be provided 

    • The learning management system "CANVAS" will be utilized for virtual instruction

    • District will provide information for low-cost home internet access

  • Elementary School times have been changed: New times are 7:25 AM to 2:50 PM

    • ​SIE Students may be dropped off beginning at 6:55 AM

  • All staff temperatures checked upon arrival​

  • All student temperatures will be taken in the morning with non-contact thermometers. A fever is considered to be 100.4 or greater.

  • Students attending in person will come every day, class size limits of 25 including adults

  • Masks required for students grades 3-5 (allowed but not required for PK-2nd)

  • Masks required for all students PK-5th while riding a school bus

  • Social distancing will be maintained to the extent possible

  • All adults wear masks when in school building​

  • Students will remain in "static" groups for the day

  • Partner Teachers (ELA/SS and Math/SCI) in grades 3-5 will move during exchange time to teach their content instead of students moving.​ ​Students remain in their homeroom classroom.

  • Lunch will be in the classroom​

  • High touch surfaces will be disinfected frequently
  • Frequent opportunities for hand washing or use of hand sanitizer
  • Water fountains will be turned off, students need to bring their own water bottle filled for the day
  • Outdoor recess will be scheduled so students will remain in static groups and distanced from other groups
  • Parents, volunteers or guests will not be allowed on campus, nor will delivery of items such as desserts for birthday celebrations. Parents may only access office for registering students or checking students in/out of school
  • Positive COVID19 tests in a "static group" will necessitate a quarantine period for members of that group designated by LDOE Exposure Guidance. More guidance on this will be provided as it is received
